Gandhada Gudi – The Journey of a True Hero was a project that the late Puneeth Rajkumar made with a lot of passion. It was his dream project; something that he was immensely proud about and was eagerly looking forward to presenting it to audiences. Unfortunately, that was not to be, as the actor passed away only days before he’d promised to reveal its title and teaser.

After his unfortunate demise, it became even more important for his widow, Ashwini Puneeth Rajkumar to ensure that it reaches the people. So, together with director J Amoghavarsha, she worked on bringing it to the big screen as a tribute to her dearly departed husband. The docu-feature, which had Puneeth travel across Karnataka with Amogha, to experience the beauty that the forests, hills and oceans of the state have to offer, released in theatres on October 28, on the occasion of his first death anniversary, and has been well received by audiences.

After the film’s theatrical release, fans have been asking Amogha to release a longer, director’s cut version in time for its OTT outing. But looks like the team has other plans, as today, they released Journey of Gandhada Gudi, the first in a series of behind-the-scenes footage episodes. Here Ashwini and Amogha explain how Gandhada Gudi came to be; that Puneeth had seen the first cut of the film before his untimely passing; his excitement at seeing wild elephants and so much more. “When the idea for the docu-feature came to us, Puneeth said that it was something new that ought to be done under our banner. He was very excited because he loved adventure and nature,” says Ashwini on the first episode of the Journey of Gandhada Gudi.

For music director Ajaneesh Loknath, the excitement started from the time Puneeth called him personally about the project and the fact that it would allow him to experiment in a non-commercial film.
