The Malayalam film Janaki V vs State of Kerala (JSK) has finally got the nod from the Central Board of Film Certification, which granted it a U/A 16 certificate. The film, starring Malayalam actor-politician Suresh Gopi in the lead, will be released in theatres soon. After much delay and speculation, the JSK team has confirmed that Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran's film will release in theatres on July 17, 2025

JSK to release on July 17

The CBFC, also known as the Censor Board, has given the go-ahead for the release of the 2025 Malayalam film Janaki V vs State of Kerala, starring Suresh Gopi and Anupama Parameswaran. The makers have now confirmed that JSK will hit theatres on July 17, 2025. The new poster of JSK was shared by the team, including lead actor Suresh Gopi.

Earlier a report on Manorama News said that the makers are considering July 17, 18 and 25 as the film's release date.

The Malayalam legal drama, which was originally titled Janaki vs State of Kerala, was earlier slated to hit theatres on June 27, 2025, but the CBFC refused to grant permission, insisting that the name Janaki cannot be used in the title as it was the name of the deity. After the makers refused to toe the line, the matter was taken up in court.

Initially, the board had insisted that the makers cut out Janaki from the title and from all instances within the film, that comes up to more than 90 cuts.

But the CBFC later submitted in court that the title should say ‘V Janaki’ and sought to mute the name’s reference at two instances. The makers too agreed to the suggestions and submitted the revised version to the board, which granted the certificate promptly.

The CBFC’s stand had sparked a huge outrage among other Malayalam filmmakers, actors and technicians who rallied behind the Suresh Gopi-starrer. The Kerala High Court will again consider the case on July 17, 2025.
