In the past, university life has been portrayed in Indian movies with a fair degree of excitement, with the feel-good aspect frequently glossing over some of the unpleasant realities. However, Lionsgate Play's second Indian original, Jugaadistan, is going to shatter the mould and change the way college stories are told. The trailer for the show doesn't mince words when it comes to portraying some of the darker aspects of student life.

Students looking to make a quick buck through dubious means, a con artist who lures students into the dark side, a student politician who bends the rules to win elections, a budding journalist looking for a hard-hitting story, a student who takes his activism seriously, a professor looking to put an end to fraudulent practices on campus, and a senior journalist investigating a crime. The world of Jugaadistan is a melting pot of disparate characters with clearly defined goals and agendas.

Sumeet Vyas said of his role as a student politician in the show that it's unlike any other campus drama that anyone has seen so far. There are numerous plot lines going on at the same time, and his character's sole goal is to win student elections no matter what it takes. In reality, in his character's attempt to appeal to a broad range of students, he is unintentionally humorous. It was one of the most unforgettable roles he has ever had the pleasure of portraying onscreen.

Ahsaas Channa, who portrays a student journalist, revealed that she has been a part of college dramas before, but Jugaadistan goes into places that have remained untouched thus far. Her character wants to make a big splash on campus, and she's willing to break the rules in order to do so. The directors, Akarsh and Adhaar Khurana, had a thorough understanding of the environment and the kids, so shooting for the show was a learning experience. Being a part of an ensemble cast pushed her even harder to give it her all.

One of the most essential themes that the show covers is journalists seeking the truth and not being cowed down by fear of mightier forces at play, says Arjun Mathur, who plays a senior journalist investigating a crime. He was immediately captivated by the show's premise because, as he said, it requires courage, conviction, and tenacity. That's exactly what his persona represents.

This was an interesting part for Parambrata Chatterjee to play, as he is seen as a hot professor who makes pupils weak in the knees. He was ecstatic to play a professor whose duty it is to mould students' lives while they are in college. The actor had witnessed several of my friends drooling over teachers when he was on campus, so he adapted some of those events to play this part.

Jugaadistan is a harsh and realistic portrayal of school life that emphasizes how "jugaad" becomes the cornerstone for students navigating the numerous ups and downs. While their first taste of adulthood might be liberating, it is up to them to figure out how to navigate this newfound freedom. From March 4, 2022, onwards, Jugaadistan will be available to stream on Lionsgate Play.
