Love Next Door, starring Jung Hae-in and Jung So-min in the lead roles, has been lauded for what the concept of the show is. It is about discovering one's true self with the help of their childhood dreams and nightmares. There is one such moment that draws similarities between Hae-in's Seung-hyo and Byeon Woo-seok's Lovely Runner character, Ryu Sun-jae. The same was touched upon in episode 7 too, and we finally got the closure that Lovely Runner did not offer. Here's the similarity and what happened...
Both Seung-hyo and Sun-jae had a broken dream. They were both passionate about swimming. They both had a deep regret for not being able to pursue it after a major accident. The moment is also touted as the biggest breaking point for Sun-jae in Lovely Runner. However, Love Next Door offered us the closure that Lovely Runner did not when it came to that moment.
In Love Next Door episode 7, Seung-hyo says his final goodbye to the swimming pool. He visited his school since he is an architect by profession. That is when his teacher came and asked him to end the grief once-and-for all. The episode hints that Seung-hyo did just that.
Sun-jae and Im-sol (Kim Hye-yoon) took forever to confess their feelings to each other. It was in the actions when it came to them. With Love Next Door though, the seventh episode also saw a confession - from Seung-ho to his childhood love, Seok-ryu. What he doesn't know yet though, is that it is not an unrequitted love and that she has also loved him since they were kids.
Thus, Love Next Door gives us the closure we kept waiting for in Lovely Runner.
The eighth episode of Love Next Door will be out tonight at 8.30 pm. The equation between Seung-hyo and Seok-ryu is bound to change now that there's a confession. The episode will explore how would they go forward from that point.
