Junior on OTT: Streaming date of Kireeti Reddy’s debut film advanced?

After 3 years in the making and less than two weeks at the box office, Kireeti Reddy’s Junior is, reportedly, ending its theatrical run this week. The Telugu-Kannada bilingual, which released in theatres on July 18 to moderately positive reviews that praised the young actor, does not have shows lined up after July 31, what with films like Su from So and Mahavatar Narasimha having taken up a lion’s share of the screens, and Vijay Deverakonda’s much-awaited Kingdom hitting screens this week.

Kireeti Reddy's Junior on OTT as early as...

It was earlier reported that Junior would be on OTT by the week 4 mark, around August 15, but the latest buzz is that this maybe advanced by two weeks, to capitalize on the positive word-of-mouth the film had generated. According to a report, Junior is slated to hit Amazon Prime Video as early as August 2nd week, as soon as it ends its theatrical run.

Directed by Radhakrishna Reddy, who made the Kannada film Mayabazar 2016 earlier, Junior is an emotional tale that revolves around a father-son and father-daughter relationship. The film was supposed to be Genelia Deshmukh’s comeback vehicle, but delays in production meant that Sitaare Zameen Par got that credit.

Kireeti was paired with Sreeleela in the film, but with the story focusing more on the relationship dynamics between him and V Ravichandran, who plays his father, as well as Genelia and the veteran Kannada actor, there was not space for the romantic track. The song Viral Vayyari, featuring Kireeti and Sreeleela, was a major hit, though.

Kireeti received a lot of praise for his dance, action and acting prowess, but the film’s story was far from novel. Released in theatres in a clash with Yuva Rajkumar’s Ekka, Junior had a decent run in theatres and is said to have grossed around Rs 11 crore, most of which came from the Telugu version, despite Kireeti’s assertion that his debut film was a Kannada movie.
