Junior OTT release date: When and where to stream Kireeti Reddy’s launchpad

Kireeti Reddy’s debut film Junior had a rather short-lived theatrical stint, despite praise for the young actor’s efforts in the Radhakrishna Reddy directorial. Released in theatres as a Telugu-Kannada bilingual on July 18, Junior did not fare well in Karnataka, despite Kireeti’s repeated claims that it was a Kannada film that was also made in Telugu.

On the other hand, the Telugu version had a much better reception, with it contributing a lion’s share of the film’s tracked Rs 7.65 cr net collection. The film, which was reportedly made at a budget of Rs 25 crore, ended its theatrical run within the 2-week mark and an immediate OTT outing was rumoured.

Junior dropping on multiple platforms

The initial buzz in industry circles was that Junior would be available to stream closer to the 30-day mark. August 14 was the initial date that was heard, but subsequently it became clear that the team had sold the rights to multiple platforms, on non-exclusive deals. The Kannada version went to Namma Flix, while the Telugu version will be on aha Telugu and Amazon Prime Video. 

Radhakrishna’s film was designed as a showreel for Kireeti, and the young actor made the most of it, with most reviews stating that he is a promising talent to look out for. Kireeti had said that he wanted to begin his career with a family drama that also had V Ravichandran on board, both of which Radhakrishna managed to do in his sophomore film.

Ravichandran played Kireeti’s character Abhi’s father, a helicopter parent hovering around his son all the time, so much that the latter tries to stay away from home as far as possible. But when Abhi realizes the connect between his father and the head of the software firm that the former interns at.

Launched in 2022 amid much fanfare, Junior was delayed in the making as Kireeti was forced out of action for almost a year following an injury sustained during a stunt sequence. He was paired with Sreeleela, but the delays in production also meant that by the time they resumed shooting, she was one of the busiest actresses in Telugu cinema and was hence noticeably missing in the second half of the film.

A Devi Sri Prasad musical, Junior features the viral hit song Viral Vayyari, the full version of which was released recently and had netizens remarking that it was the first time that an actor had overshadowed Sreeleela in a dance number. Junior also stars Genelia Deshmukh, Rao Ramesh, Achyuth Kumar and Kiran Srinivas, among others.-
