The courtroom drama directed by Ashwiny Iyer Tiwari for Amazon Prime Video has finally commenced filming after much anticipation and several revisions during the planning process. After two years of casting calls, the project has found its headliner, replacing Kareena Kapoor Khan and Kiara Advani. Filming began last week in different locations throughout Mumbai, but Sonakshi Sinha and Jyotika are currently leading the cast.

Set construction and shoot locations

As per Mid Day, courtroom interiors were recreated at Malvani, Madh Island, and Vile Parle, among other locales, and the production got underway. Despite the original March schedule, the production had to wait for the finalisation of a new script draft before filming could commence.

The version starring Kapoor and Advani was eventually scrapped, according to a source close to the production. The misalignment between their schedules and the company's creative direction led to its scrapping, according to a source close to the production. They also revealed that the company locked a new draft early this year after shelving the initial version. Following thorough examination, testing, and reading, Sonakshi joined the team. Her performance left an impression on the creative team with its grounded intensity.

Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani of Excel Entertainment and Baweja Studios, headed by Harman Baweja, are producing the film together. The makers have not yet decided on the title.

Storyline and thematic focus

The tale revolves around a court case that delves into issues of social justice and personal trauma, and the two main characters take turns shining. The insider went on to add that this isn't your average courtroom drama; the screenplay is harsh and realistic. Both female protagonists are given equal weight, and the legal arguments are accompanied by emotional backstories. The insider anticipates their courtroom scenes to be the film's highlight, with Jyotika commencing production in mid-June.

Playing a feisty lawyer is Sonakshi Sinha's comeback to dramatic roles. Perhaps Jyotika is already familiar with the layout of the courtroom. The Tamil film Ponmagal Vandhal (2020) featured her as a rookie lawyer in a similar setting and was centred on a courtroom struggle.
