If one had to write a biography on ‘Bollywood’, it will be totally incomplete with this man’s preface, credit and acknowledgement. We are indeed talking to the man who defines Bollywood – Anupam Kher! Often termed as a living institution of acting, the veteran actor is one happy man today and he has every right to be so. His pet project Kaagaz 2 has been released in theatres today.

The film Kaagaz 2 is extremely special to him for many ways than one. On one hand, it deals with the struggles of the common man and on the other hand, this film is a heartfelt tribute to his best friend Satish Kaushik, who is longer amongst us.

OTTplay caught up with Anupam Kher amidst his busy schedule for an exclusive interview. Here are the excerpts.

Anupam ji, in a nutshell, how would you describe Kaagaz 2?
While on one hand, when a person does many films and then, on the other hand, when he does an issue-based film, which is also made so well, the whole purpose of the film happens to be an issue that gets crafted as a film. It’s not a case where a film is made where the issue and the purpose is lost. In this case, (Kaagaz 2), it is not only entertaining, but also elevating very engrossing. Satish (Kaushik) was passionate about lots of films, but this was his passion project.

Does the film’s premise of Kaagaz 2 resonate with the common man’s problems?
Cent per cent yes! If you see the film, you will realise that it resonates with the common man. Even though we both (Satish Kaushik and me) might have become successful, we, started off as a common man and the essence of being a common man will always remain with us and within us. We may have got cars and houses, but inside we are still a common man and we also think like a common man. Our upbringings have been very humbling.

What was the brief that was given to you?
The brief which was given to me was that of my character- a lawyer, who is seen fighting for the victim. I play a successful lawyer who voluntarily takes up this project. Satish and I have worked so much and we know each other so much that, one just needed to apply sincerity to the project, which it demanded as a character or as a as an actor.
