Kaantha OTT release date: When and where to stream Dulquer Salmaan and Bhagyashri Borse’s period drama

Kaantha, the recently released Tamil film starring actors Dulquer Salmaan, Bhagyashri Borse and others, is heading towards its OTT premiere very soon. As reported earlier by us, the film’s post-theatrical streaming rights have been bagged by Netflix, which is set to release Kaantha very soon. Kaantha will release on December 12.

Kaantha is a 2025 Tamil period drama. The film is written and directed by filmmaker Selvamani Selvaraj. The cast is led by Dulquer Salmaan, along with actors Bhagyashri Borse, Samuthirakani, Rana Daggubati, Gayathrie Shankar, Nizhalgal Ravi and others in supporting roles.

The film released in theatres in November, and following its theatrical run, will now stream on Netflix very soon. Kaantha is set to premiere on OTT this Friday, November 12. The period drama is set in the 1950s Madras Presidency where the shooting of Tamil cinema’s first horror film is to take place after the project got dropped multiple times. The project is also the reunion of star actor and director who introduced him, paving way for an ego clash to ensue between them. However, the death of the film’s lead actress, causes Kaantha to stir away into a murder mystery film.

Kaantha: How did it fare?

Kaantha is produced by Dulquer Salmaan and Rana Daggubati jointly. The film had opened to decent reviews, with critics praising the film’s making and performances. However, the genre shift from a drama to murder mystery did not sit well among many. Kaantha is also the Tamil debut of Bhagyashri Borse. The film was speculated to be a biopic on Tamil cinema’s first superstars MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar. However, Kaantha makers had rubbished the rumours and affirmed that it is a fictional tale.

The film is shot by cinematographer Dani Sanchez-Lopez and edited by Llewellyn Anthony Gonsalvez. The songs of Kaantha are scored by Jhanu Chanthar with Jakes Bejoy composing the background score.
