Kaantha OTT release: The streaming rights of Selvamani Selvaraj’s period drama about the ego clash between an actor (Dulquer Salmaan) and a director (Samuthirakani) had been finalized earlier.

Dulquer Salmaan’s period drama Kaantha may not have set the box office on fire, but it has got the actor bouquets galore for his outing as a celebrated actor in 50s Madras. The Tamil-Telugu bilingual, which also stars Bhagyashri Borse, Rana Daggubati, Samuthirakani, Vayapuri, Gayathrie, Nizhalgal Rai, Ravindra Vijay, among others, released in theatres on October 14, 2025, but did not have a great run, after the first week.

Kaantha’s post-theatrical digital streaming rights, though, had been picked up prior to the release, with Netflix the OTT partner. According to the latest buzz in industry circles, given that the film has not had a great theatrical run, the streamer is pushing for a 4-week OTT outing for the south language versions. As such, Kaantha is speculated to be headed to Netflix on December 12, 2025 in Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam. The Hindi dubbed version is expected to arrive after the 8-week mark.
Said to be loosely based on the life of MK Thyagaraja Bhagavathar, Kaantha had Dulquer as TK Mahadevan, whose ego clash with director Ayya (Samuthirakani) over the latter’s proposed female-centric film, ends with a death on set. The actor-director duo become prime suspects in the case, investigated by Inspector Devaraj (Rana).
Jointly produced by Dulquer and Rana, Kaantha has a run-time of 163 minutes. The film had songs by Jhanu Chanthar and background score by Jakes Bejoy, who, most recently collaborated with Dulquer on Lokah Chapter 1: Chandra.
