While fans of superstars Mammootty and Mohanlal have been vociferous about actor Prithviraj Sukumaran helming their movies for different reasons, the latter recently revealed that he had already directed Asif Ali in a superhit movie, almost a decade ago.

Prithviraj and Asif have worked together in films such as Amal Neerad’s Bachelor Party, Anil Radhakrishnan Menon’s Sapthamashree Thaskaraha and Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Double Barrel in the past decade. However, the actor, who had also co-produced Sapthamashree Thaskaraha, in a recent interview revealed that he had directed a scene in the film with Asif.

“I had worked with Asif in Sapthamashree (Thaskaraha) and I had shot the intro scene of his character, which is a fight sequence,” said the actor. “Right after that, I had told Shaji Nadesan that he (Asif) is a star material and would one day reach there.”

Prithviraj and Asif will next be seen sharing screen space in the upcoming gangster drama Kaapa, which is set to hit theatres on December 22. The Shaji Kailas directorial, which also has Anna Ben, Aparna Balamurali, Dileesh Pothan and Jagadeesh, has Prithviraj essaying a gangster named Kotta Madhu while Asif plays the character named Anand.

Prithviraj said that both their characters have equal prominence in the film and it’s probably Asif’s role that has more screentime. “The audience will get the discover the back story of Kotta Madhu through Anand, for whom my character is a larger than life figure,” said the actor, in a recent interview.

The movie, which is scripted by GR Indugopan, is based on his novel Shankhumukhi and is produced by Film Employees Federation of Kerala’s Writers Union. Set in Thiruvananthapuram, the movie revolves around the Kerala Anti-Social Activities (Prevention) Act. Kaapa marks the second collaboration between Prithviraj and director Shaji Kailas this year, after their superhit Kaduva, which is currently streaming on Amazon Prime Video.
