The trailer of Prithviraj's gangster drama is out and it provides a glimpse of the dark underbelly of Thiruvananthapuram where gangsters take on each other in a cold-blooded manner to gain control of the city's suburbs and slums. Prithviraj plays Madhu, an ordinary henchman who believes that people like him are born without knowing the reason why they came to the world, and die without understanding why they were leaving. But he works his way and rises in the crime world to become one of the top gangsters of the mafia.​

Taking to his social media handle, Prithviraj wrote, "#KAAPA Official trailer! The video gives a peek into many blood and gore moments and this includes Aparna Balamurali's character, too, who says that no one returns alive after arriving there. It looks like the plot will revolve around the violent history of the Kerala state capital. The story has been penned by GR Indugopan, music is by Dawn Vincent. While the cinematography is by Jomon T John, editing is by Shameer Muhammad.The film is all set to hit screens on December 22.

Prithviraj is currently working on Jayan Nambiar’s directorial Vilayath Buddha, which is based on GR Indugopan’s novel and has Prithviraj playing the role of a sandalwood smuggler. The star cast includes Shammi Thilakan, Ramesh Kottayam and Anu Mohan.The plot revolves around the rivalry between two people and Prithviraj's character is named Double Mohanan.

The actor was last seen in Alphonse Puthren’s crime comedy Gold, which also has Nayanthara in the lead, along with an ensemble supporting cast. The plot revolves around a mobile shop owner who finds an abandoned pickup truck in front of the store and discovers that the vehicle has stashed gold inside it. The film's release was delayed and when it finally hit screens, it opened to mixed reviews by the critics.
