'Kaatera' hit the ground running when it released in theatres on December 29th, 2023, as the final big highlight of the year for Kannada audiences. Luckily, for them, the film proved to be worth all the wait as Challenging Star Darshan's solid central performance, powered by Tharun Sudhir's conviction, delivered a mass entertainer that the entire industry craved the whole of 2023.

Box office-wise, too, 'Kaatera' has lived up to the expectations and began its journey on a really good note. Trade reports stated that the film collected close to Rs. 14 crores (gross) on the first day of its theatrical run with the rest of the "long weekend", including the 1st January 2024 holiday, adding (reportedly) approximately Rs. 30 crores to the tally.

On Day #5, Tharun Sudhir's film is said to have gotten past the Rs. 50 crores mark in terms of gross collections. Of course, the earnings saw a significant drop on Tuesday considering it was a working day with Day #6 or Wednesday fetching about Rs. 5 crores (estimated). Over the last six days, 'Kaatera' is reported to have grossed close to Rs. 58 crores with the net collections amounting to Rs. 47 crores (approx.).

With this performance now in perspective, how far can 'Kaatera' go as far as the box office is concerned? Well, the film has done a decent job thus far in holding its own during the weekday period but it won't be long before the film is forced to reckon with bigger releases.

January 12th, the all-important Sankranthi Friday, alone has a wide array of releases including 'Merry Christmas', 'Captain Miller', 'Guntur Kaaram', 'Saindhav' and others. So, in that sense, 'Kaatera' has about a week to itself to utilize the relatively free box office.

More importantly, it would seem that the makers of the film are widening the release through overseas screens. Tharun Sudhir disclosed very recently that the team always intended to hold 'Kaatera's overseas release for a week and as per schedule, the film is now set to arrive in the USA, Canada, UAE and Australia. The new slate of releases should, thereby, add to the current collections.

'Kaatera' also stars Aradhana Ram, Jagapathi Babu, Kumar Govind, Shruti, Vinod Kumar Alwa and others.
