Tharun Sudhir says that Kaatera was a difficult and sensitive subject to execute, which will be revealed in the trailer on December 16
On December 14 evening, the entire team of the upcoming Kannada movie Kaatera congregated for a media briefing about its imminent release. The film is releasing in theatres on December 29, but barring two songs featuring lead pair Darshan and Aradhanaa, there’s barely any information in the public domain. This continued during the media briefing also, where everyone was told not to reveal anything about the film. And that is because director Tharun Kishore Sudhir wants to maintain a sense of mystery about Kaatera until the trailer drops on December 16. The trailer, he says, will not only reveal what the film is about, but will also pack in a surprise for audiences.
So far, Tharun has only said that he’s made a film in which Darshan has a never-before-seen avatar, a role he’s not done earlier. In fact, while Tharun was writing the script along with Jadesha K Hampi (director of Guru Shishyaru), there were moments when they worried if they were putting together a film that was way too experimental and out-of-the box for Darshan. But Tharun found the confidence to take it to the Challenging Star as the script has all the elements required for a commercial flick, while also ensuring that it is content-based and not just a potpourri of ‘masala’ elements. “This was a difficult and sensitive subject to execute, which you will realize when you see the trailer,” he said.
Elaborating on Tharun’s statement, Darshan also said that the film is different, so much so that the hero introduction is not with a song or fight. The first song is only around 20 minutes into the narrative, while action comes even later, he added, Fans have been divided about this revelation, wondering whether Darshan should have said as much. Many are seeing it as an affirmation from his end that he has genuinely tried to do something different, instead of a routine commercial film.
