Malayalam superstar Mammootty’s 2023 might not have started the way he liked, with Lijo Jose Pellissery’s Nanpakal Nerathu Mayakkam and B Unnikrishnan’s Christopher failing to create any waves at the box office. But April promises double delight for the megastar’s fans with his movies Kaathal – The Core and Agent releasing, a week apart.
Mammootty’s next release Kaathal – The Core, which is helmed by The Great Indian Kitchen director Jeo Baby, will hit theatres on April 20, as per reports. There’s yet to be an official announcement on this but sources say that Mammootty Kampany and Wayfarer Films, which is producing and distributing the family drama, have had preliminary discussions with the theatre exhibitors to lock the date.
In an earlier interview, Mammootty talks about the Jeo Baby directorial, which also has Jyothika in the lead. “It’s a story that a lot of people would have heard from others or experienced in their own lives. But it has not been made into a film yet,” he said, adding the Kaathal in the title doesn’t allude to love but the core essence of life.
Agent will mark the megastar’s first Telugu film since Yathra in 2019. The movie, which has Akhil Akkineni in the lead, is helmed by Surender Reddy and is set for an April 28 release. Mammootty plays a RAW officer tasked to capture a rogue agent in the big budget action-thriller, which was shot in Hyderabad, Budapest and Manali. Agent also has Dino Morea, Sakshi Vaidya and Vikramjeet Virk as part of the cast.
Meanwhile, Mammootty is currently shooting for Kannur Squad, which marks the directorial debut of cinematographer-turned-filmmaker Roby Varghese Raj. The film, which is also produced by Mammootty Kampany, will wrap up its Pune schedule soon and the team is expected to can its final schedule in Wayanad by mid March.
