Written by Adarsh Sukumaran and Paulson Skaria, Kaathal is particularly praised for its screenplay and Mammootty’s performance. On its opening day, the film also managed to make a decent earning at the box office - ₹1 crore.

Kaathal - The Core follows the journey of Mathew Devassy (Mammootty), a small town politician, whose sexual orientation comes in the way of his political ambitions. Mammootty plays a closeted man, whose wife Omana (Jyotika) has demanded him for divorce.
The Jeo Baby directorial also features Joji John, Jisshu Sengupta, Muthumani, Chinnu Chandni, Anagha Maya Ravi and Alex Alister in supporting roles.

Tamil actress Jyotika, who had looked forward to making a comeback to Malayalam cinema with the Mammootty starrer, opened up about working with the megastar during one of the film’s promotional events.
Jyotika said that she is so proud to be associating with Mammootty and his production banner Mammootty Kampany for Kaathal - The Core. The Kaakha Kaakha star, sharing insights into her experience working with Mammootty in the film, said, “There’s something special about him.” She feels that Mammootty is distinct because of his willingness to explore and engage in diverse film genres, even at this stage of his career.
