Kabzaa box office collection Day 2: Can the Upendra - Kiccha Sudeep film close first weekend at THIS number?

While these numbers look fairly satisfactory, there is no denying that R. Chandru's film, which stars Upendra, Kiccha Sudeep, Shriya Saran and Shiva Rajkumar (cameo), was meant to do a lot better.

R. Chandru's gangster epic Kabzaa continues to stay afloat at the box office following a slightly underwhelming start. The film, as per popular trade sources, managed to collect close to Rs. 11 crores (Rs. 10.35 crores in net value and Rs. 12.2 crores in gross) on the opening day of its release but with the negative reviews coming into play, the Day #2 collections were expected to encounter a dip.

And just as estimated, Kabzaa was (reportedly) able to collect a little over Rs. 8 crores at the domestic box office on Saturday, March 18th, to bring the combined two-day box office to Rs. 18.50 crores (net).

OTTplay had previously predicted that Kabzaaa is looking at a Rs. 25 to 30 crore opening weekend and judging by the ongoing performance, the film should close Sunday, March 19th, somewhere close to Rs. 25 crores.

While these numbers look fairly satisfactory, there is no denying that R. Chandru's film, which stars many big names like Upendra, Kiccha Sudeep, Shriya Saran and Shiva Rajkumar (cameo), was meant to do a lot better. Touted as a film of epic proportions that would chronicle the 'rise of gangsters in India', Kabzaa opened to largely mixed reviews with most 'objective' reviews expressing disappointment. Many felt that the film lacked the necessary novelty or finesse to warrant the status of a 'pan-Indian' film and their criticism mainly highlighted the blatant similarities that existed between Kabzaa and KGF 2 (both KGF films, as a matter of fact). R. Chandru, the writer, director and producer of Kabzaa, too, was pulled up for not delivering on the initial promises made.

Kabzaa is meant to be extended into a franchise with the concluding moments of the film revealing that Shiva Rajkumar's blink-and-miss cameo appearance will lead into the second part. However, these prospects might depend on how the first part fares at the box office and one may witness a bigger slump during the weekdays. More updates to follow.
