In just over a month, R Chandru’s biggest project to date, Kabzaa will be in theatres. The filmmaker has already begun promotions of the film, with his leading man, Real Star Upendra and heroine Shriya Saran interacting with the Telugu media straight after the title song launch in Hyderabad on February 4. When he’d announced the theatrical release date of the film, Chandru had said that he will look at having an update/launch every week. In keeping with that, he is now set to present the second song from the Ravi Basrur musical.

On February 16, Chandru will bring the full video of the song Namami to audiences. The announcement poster featured an image of Shriya in character as Princess Madhumathi, so the assumption is that this is a song featuring her. Namami will be launched at a special event to be held in Chennai. Chandru is yet to announce who will do the honours of launching the song there.

The soundtrack of Kabzaa has five songs, three of which the team will release before the film hits theatres. A trailer is expected in the first week of March, which will be launched at a mega event in Mumbai. The film, which will release in Kannada, Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Malayalam, will release on March 17. So far, everything that’s been released in the public domain bears a stark resemblance to Yash’s KGF, which is intentional, according to Chandru, as he’s tried to present a different gangster story, with a similar treatment.

The title track did not enthuse netizens, with Ravi Basrur at the receiving end of a lot of brickbats. The team is hopeful of turning things around with the second song, says a source, adding that while Kabzaa has so far been promoted as a film about a gangster who ruled over India, with a storyline spanning between 1940 and 1980, the teaser and title track hinted at a mother-son sentiment as the crux, prompting more KGF comparisons. The source tells us though that Kabzaa is not about a mother, but a wife, instead.

The film, meanwhile, also stars Kiccha Sudeep and Shivarajkumar in pivotal cameos, along with a massive ensemble cast.
