Kannada superstar Sudeep's sense of humour was on full display during Thursday's press interactions in Mumbai. He accompanied his co-star Upendra to promote the upcoming multilingual film Kabzaa . Billed as the "next big film" from the Kannada film industry after the KGF series, the filmmakers have started to step up the promotions across the country.

During the interaction with the media, Upendra revealed that director R. Chandru cried while narrating the script to him. And Sudeep was also asked whether Chandru cried while narrating the film to him. The star's witty answer left everyone in splits. Sudeep said, "No, he cried only when he had to pay me." Sudeep's answer implied that he's one of the most expensive talents in the Kannada film industry and it must be heavy on the pockets of producers to accommodate him.

Written and directed by Chandru, the movie is a two-part period drama. The filmmakers have taken inspiration from Prashanth Neel's global hit KGF series to mount this drama about the rise of gangster culture in India. Kabzaa marks Upendra's first attempt to take his movie beyond the south Indian states.

Upendra is a known face across the southern states. He has acted in several hit Tamil and Telugu movies. And he's hoping that his past work in non-Kannada movies would draw other language audiences to cinemas when the biggest film in his career releases next week.

Kabzaa is said to have cost the producers to the tune of Rs 80 crore. According to reports, the producers have already recovered their costs through the pre-release deals. And the film's non-theatrical revenue is reportedly said to reach Rs 100 crore before its release.

Sudeep has played a key role in the movie. Besides Upendra and Sudeep, the film also stars Shivarajkumar in an important cameo.
