Prior to the pandemic, Real Star Upendra had started working on a period film with director R Chandru, called Kabzaa. The film was, in fact, launched on Upendra’s birthday in 2019. A fictional account about a gangster who reigned over south India in the 70s and 80s, the film, which has Upendra in the lead, was majorly shot across sets given that the storyline traverses between the 50s and the 80s.

Barring a few stills from the making of the film and a motion poster, Chandru has kept pretty much everything about Kabzaa out of the public eye. But that will change this weekend, when he releases the teaser of the film on the eve of lead actor Upendra’s birthday. On September 17 at 5 pm, the teaser of Kabzaa will be released online.

Earlier this year, Chandru had told us that Kabzaa would be a two-part film and that he was aiming to have at least one instalment release in 2022. “I am quite confident of presenting Kabzaa as a 2022 release. Given the scale of the film and the massive story to be told, Kabzaa is being presented as a two-part tale and the first instalment should be out by the end of the year,” he had said.

Kabzaa also stars Kiccha Sudeep, Shriya Saran, Murali Sharma, Posani Murali Nawab Shah, Kabir Duhan Singh, Jagapati Babu, Danish Akhtar Saifi, Rahul Dev, Anup Revanna and Pradeep Rawat, among others. Century Star Shiva Rajkumar is also believed to have done a special cameo in the film. Kabzaa, which has music by KGF fame composer Ravi Basrur, is being planned as a pan-India release, with versions in Kannada, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Hindi, Odiya and Bangla.

Upendra, who was last seen in Home Minister, is currently working on his next directorial, UI, which comes a good seven years after his last, Uppi 2.
