The launch of the first single from R Chandru’s much-awaited gangster saga, Kabzaa, was not off to a good start. The song was to drop on the audio partner Anand Audio’s official YouTube page at 7 pm on February 4, but there was no sign of it until a good half an hour later. Netizens who were eagerly awaiting the title track wasted no time in trolling Chandru for not delivering on time as promised.

When the song eventually dropped, some absolutely loved composer Ravi Basrur’s composition and lyrics, while others were less than impressed. The song, they reckon, will be a winner, but the KGF hangover is undeniable, they added. The fact that Ravi used a lot of Hindi lyrics was also not appreciated. Ravi has provided additional vocals to the song sung by Santhosh Venky and Bhavyashri Bandimata.

Kabzaa, written, produced and directed by R Chandru, is a tale of a gangster who ruled over India for several decades. The film has Real Star Upendra in the lead and boasts an ensemble cast including the likes of Shriya Saran, Kiccha Sudeep, Shivarajkumar, Murali Sharma, Danish Akthar Saifi, Kabir Duhan Singh, Posani Murali Krishna, Anup Revanna, among others. The film is headed to theatres on March 17.

Chandru, who has been defending his choice of making the film like KGF, had earlier said that he chose to bring Kabzaa to theatres on the late Power Star Puneeth Rajkumar’s birthday as a gift for the actor, who was immensely supportive of his efforts in making a world-class film. To prove this point, Chandru ended the lyrical video of the title track with visuals of Puneeth Rajkumar’ visit to the Kabzaa set. And that became his biggest selling point for the song, with netizens declaring unanimously that seeing Puneeth flashing his trademark smile made them emotional.
