Music director Jakes Bejoy, whose tunes elevated Prithviraj Sukumaran’s recent films including Jana Gana Mana, Ayyappanum Koshiyum, Kuruthi and Bhramam, is currently working on their biggest collaboration yet – Kaduva.
The composer, who had also scored music for Prithviraj’s Ranam, shared an update on the status of the Shaji Kailas directorial. Jakes said that he is currently working on the background music of the film, which will have the actor in a “complete mass avatar as Palakkaran Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan”.
The film, which is written by Jinu V Abraham, is directed by Shaji Kailas and is the veteran filmmaker’s comeback after a gap of almost five years. Shaji and Prithviraj had previously teamed up for the drama Simhasanam.
In an earlier interview with OTTplay, Jakes had explained how his experience of working in Telugu mass entertainers has helped him form the soundscape for Kaduva, which is set in the 90s and revolves around the protagonist going up against the police force.
He said that he had worked with the Telugu production company Geetha Arts, which produces some of the biggest commercial entertainers in the South. “It was an education to know how to make a commercially engaging subject into a mass film, and this has helped in Kaduva,” said the music director, who had most recently scored for Mammootty’s Puzhu, which is currently streaming on Sony LIV.
Kaduva also marks Vivek Oberoi's second Malayalam venture after Lucifer. The Bollywood actor will be playing a cop in the film, which also has Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan, Baiju Santosh, Rahul Madhav and Seema.
Its scriptwriter Jinu in an interview last week had told us that the movie is currently being planned for a June end theatrical release. Kaduva will mark Prithviraj’s second theatrical release after Dijo Jose Antony’s Jana Gana Mana, which is set to drop on Netflix by June.
