Amid its theatrical run and controversies, Kaduva has finally got a streaming date on OTT. The Shaji Kailas directorial, featuring Prithviraj Sukumaran and Vivek Oberoi in the lead roles, is set to premiere on Amazon Prime Video on August 4, 2022. The streamers took to their social media pages to make the announcement. They shared a poster featuring Prithviraj and Vivek posing on opposite sides with a tiger's claw mark on it.
While announcing, they captioned the poster as "a tale that will transport you to a 90s rivalry quest. #KaduvaOnPrime, Aug 4."
Kaduva, which is set in the late 1990s, centres on the life of a young Mundakayam rubber plantation worker and his rivalry with a senior Kerala Police officer.
As per the initial reports, the film, which has been dogged by legal issues from its inception, is currently under threat once again — this time for allegedly disobeying a court order to change the name of its protagonist from Kuruvachan.
Jose, who had previously filed a complaint alleging that the film's creators were attempting to defame him and his family with the work, has now gone to court claiming that in the versions of the work that were shown in Indian theatres, the protagonist's name had been changed from Kuruvachan to Kuriyachan. According to the complaint, the term "Kuruvachan" was still present in the version that was broadcast overseas.
To support his claims against the filmmakers, Jose had also provided documentation of the film's screenings in the US and the United Arab Emirates. His request was to stop the OTT release of the movie starring Prithviraj, which was directed by Shaji Kailas and Jinu Abraham. According to both of them, Jose is not the protagonist of the movie; instead, he is a fictional character.
The producers of Kaduva, Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames have reportedly received a notice from the court requesting an explanation.
