While the makers of Prithviraj Sukumaran’s Kaduva have been vehemently denying reports of Mohanlal playing a cameo in the movie, its lead actor recently opened up about the character that the Lucifer star was considered for in the Shaji Kailas directorial.
Shaji Kailas in a recent interview had said that he and the scriptwriter initially had plans of approaching Mohanlal for a pivotal character in the movie, but had to shelve those after the dates didn’t work out. He also said that Mohanlal will not be seen even in a single scene in the film.
In a press meet in Kochi ahead of Kaduva release on July 7, Prithviraj, however, talked about a character that will figure in a reference in the movie. “There is a character that we refer to in a dialogue in Kaduva – Kaduvakunnel Koran Mappila, who is Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan’s father,” said the star. “It refers to the migration of people to Pala and Mundakkayam areas in the 1950s. That’s a brilliant character and I believe it would be great if one of our senior superstars play the role.”
When asked who his suggestion would be to essay the role, Prithviraj said that it would be Mohanlal, Mammootty or Suresh Gopi. “It would only hold if one of them played it. Each of them will add their unique flavour to the character,” he said.
Prithviraj was also quick to add that the character only comes in a dialogue by Alencier. “He asks someone if they know who’s son Kuruvachan is. That’s all,” said Prithviraj, adding that the film’s scriptwriter Jinu had told him about Koran Mappila’s background and he thought it would make for a great story.
Kaduva, which is set in the 90s, revolves around an ego clash between a wealthy rubber planter, Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan, and a top police officer, Joseph Chandy, essayed by Vivek Oberoi. The film also has Arjun Ashokan and Samyuktha Menon in pivotal roles.
