Prithviraj Sukumaran’s latest socio-political thriller Jana Gana Mana opened to mostly favourable reviews on Thursday, with majority praising the actor’s performance as Aravind Swaminathan in Dijo Jose Antony’s film. While the movie marked Prithviraj’s first theatrical release since the pandemic, it’s sure to give a lot of hope to the makers of Kaduva.
The upcoming film, which is directed by Shaji Kailas, is an out-and-out ‘mass’ entertainer – packed with punch dialogues and action sequences that is aimed at playing to the galleries. The film also marks the return to the genre for Prithviraj after several years, promising a huge treat to his fans.
While the big budget movie wrapped up shoot in March, its post-production is currently ongoing and a source from the team said that the team has locked its first half after editing. The movie, which is set in the 90s, has Prithviraj playing a Mundakkayam-based planter who locks horns with the police authorities in his area. The film centres on the ego clashes between Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan and a police officer, essayed by Vivek Oberoi.
Scripted by Jinu V Abraham, the film is backed by Prithviraj Productions and Magic Frames. The two production firms had also funded Dijo’s Jana Gana Mana. Kaduva also has Samyuktha Menon, Arjun Ashokan, Rahul Madhav, Seema and Baiju as part of the cast.
The movie is set in the 90s and marks Prithviraj’s second collaboration with Shaji Kailas after Simhasanam almost a decade ago. The actor has also completed the shoot of Alphonse Puthren’s Gold, which has Nayanthara as the female protagonist.
Meanwhile, Shaji Kailas also has wrapped up the production of Mohanlal’s Alone. The thriller, which is a single-actor movie set during the pandemic, is rumoured to be an OTT release. Its production team is in negotiations with several leading streaming platforms for its OTT premiere.
