It’s been a while since Prithviraj Sukumaran starred in a ‘mass’ action-entertainer and what better way to make a comeback through a movie directed by Shaji Kailas, who has helmed some of the best films in the genre such as Narasimham and Aaraam Thampuram. The first teaser of Kaduva promises all the elements that have made Shaji Kailas’ films a raging success in the 90s.

The teaser, which was released through Prithviraj’s social media pages, had the actor bashing up cops – in his larger-than-life avatar as Kaduvakunnel Kuruvachan – and also delivering some ‘mass’ dialogues including that he likes the ‘lawless’ Old Testament of Bible better than the New. We also get to see the character on top of his jeep, as he gears up to light up a cigar.

Incidentally, the movie’s teaser has elements that made Suresh Gopi’s film with Mathew Thomas Plamooottil stand out when it was released last year. The teaser too had the character bashing up cops and they had released a still of Suresh Gopi smoking a cigar much like the one in Kaduva.

Kaduva’s scriptwriter Jinu V Abraham had filed a plagiarism case against the makers of the Suresh Gopi-starrer and the High Court had ruled in favour of Jinu after going through both screenplays.

Prithviraj’s Kaduva, which is currently being shot, also has Vivek Oberoi as its antagonist. The film, which has all the trappings of a 90s ‘mass’ film, also stars Arjun Ashokan, Samyuktha Varma, Rahul Madhav, Alencier Ley and Seema in pivotal roles. Mundakayam, Kottayam, Ernakulam and Thiruvananthapuram are the prime locations of the big-budget movie, which is expected to hit theatres during Eid 2022.
