In the fast-paced world of trends and algorithms, sadly, entertainment has also gotten attached to the same trajectory. Movies are being made with the same algorithm in mind, and trends define which films will be sanctioned by the bigwigs who have the power and resources to make them. Of course, there always comes some that break out of the clutter and remind us that there is no formula or algorithm that can control the world of films. That takes us back to a time when filmmakers were making films that touched the heart rather than the explore feed and were so personal that no one had to be worried about the target audience. To be precise, the calculations were never with the content. Shemaroo Me holds some of the most celebrated Indian movies. 6 Evergreen Classics On Shemaroo Me

Kagaz Ke Phool (1959)

Cast: Guru Dutt, Waheeda Rehman, and Kumari Naaz.

Director: Abrar Alvi.

If there is a Guru Dutt film in a library and I am told to talk about movies there, the first one I will always pick will be the Dutt film no matter what. Kagaz Ke Phool, which strengthened one of Hindi cinema’s most iconic pairings, Guru Dutt and Waheeda Rehman, is a film that tackles the cost one has to pay for being famous, the loneliness of someone who is in a broken marriage, the judgment that comes one's way if they choose to love for the second time, and what extent a dejected artist can go. A movie so beautiful that you will be left in tears by the time it ends.

Do Bigha Zamin (1953)

Cast: Balraj Sahani, Nirupa Roy, and Ratan Kumar.

Director: Bimal Roy.

Bimal Roy on the director’s chair and Hrishikesh Mukherjee writing the screenplay, what more does one want? Balraj Sahani starrer Do Bigha Zamin will always be a film that will serve as a reminder of the atrocities many in the country have faced at the hands of zamindars who took advantage of illiteracy. The film, which looks at a man trying to save his land from getting auctioned, is one of the most heartbreaking movies ever as it doesn't try to give its audience hope that everything will be fine one day.

Anari (1959)

Cast: Raj Kapoor and Nutan.

Director: Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

Anari is about a man who is a charmer but also a very wide individual. When he does a good deed for a rich man, he is employed by the same rich man who now ends his days of being jobless. As he meets a woman who probably works for the rich man too, he falls in love with her, only to realize she is the niece of the said rich man. Their love story hits a roadblock when a tragedy hits, and you must watch the film for what happens.

Shree 420 (1955)

Cast: Raj Kapoor, Nargis, and Nadira.

Director: Raj Kapoor.

One of the most tender Raj Kapoor movies with an iconic music album, Shree 420 is about a man who comes to the big city with aspirations in his eyes but is brought to the ground when the city welcomes him a bit too harshly. Right when he is penniless and broken, he meets a woman who decides to help and gives him shelter. Shree 420 blooms beyond this point and is a very interesting story.

Abhiman (1973)

Cast: Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan.

Director: Hrishikesh Mukherjee.

Abhiman is indeed one of the most loved films. It has Big B with real-life wife Jaya Bachchan in a very complex trajectory. A popular singer tells his wife to become a singer and motivates her. She signs up for it, and her career blooms in no time. But little do they know destiny is about to snatch everything from the husband, and the fact that the wife will only rise higher will become a conflict between the two.

Pakeezah (1972)

Cast: Ashok Kumar, Meena Kumari, and Raj Kumar.

Director: Kamal Amrohi.

We kept the best for the last. Kamal Amrohi's cult classic Pakeezah which stars the legendary Meena Kumari will always be relevant no matter what. Are Tawaifs allowed to fall in love and have a life outside the golden cages in which they are kept? Pakeezah explores the same question as it looks at a love story that is heartbreaking and beautiful at the same time. A movie that should be seen by everyone for the grandeur and the poetry.
