Ajay Devgn's Son of Sardaar and the late Yash Chopra's Jab Tak Hai Jaan clashed at the box office in 2012, and Kajol recently addressed the long-standing issue around this conflict. The confrontation ignited a huge disagreement in the business, leading Ajay Devgn FFilms to formally accuse Yash Raj Films of engaging in monopolistic activities and file a case with the Competition Commission of India (CCI).
After remaining silent about how the episode affected her for over a decade, Kajol has finally spoken out. The actress talked about how she was caught between two sides that she felt strongly about in a recent interview with Lallantop.
She stated, "Fights are always difficult, especially when they remain unresolved for some time. At that point, when you have a situation like that in front of you, both parties are standing for themselves. As somebody who was connected to both sides, I felt helpless. You have to wait for time to pass so that the feelings subside. So that things can become okay again."
In 2012, the production house of Ajay Devgn accused YRF of abusing its market dominance to secure extra screen time for Jab Tak Hai Jaan, Yash Chopra's last directorial effort before he passed away. According to Devgn's crew, this decision had a major influence on the release and performance of Son of Sardaar. Even though the CCI escalated the situation, Devgn's complaint did not result in any significant legal action.
"Change is change; it is neither good nor bad. It is written somewhere that change is eternal. It is the only thing that is constant," Kajol philosophised, offering a broader perspective on conflict and transition.
Vishal Furia's mythical horror flick Maa, in which Kajol starred, received criticism from both critics and audiences. In terms of box office receipts, the film was a bust. Her next film appearance will be in Sarzameen, which also stars Prithviraj Sukumaran and Ibrahim Ali Khan. On July 25, 2025, the film will make its debut on JioHotstar.
Ajay Devgn, meanwhile, will be back with Son of Sardaar 2, which will hit the big screens on the same day. The action comedy, directed by Vijay Kumar Arora, also stars Mrunal Thakur, Ravi Kishan, and Sanjay Mishra, among others.
