Interestingly, this film marked Kajol’s husband Ajay Devgn’s debut as a film producer. Created with a budget of just Rs 25 crores in the year 2000, this action comedy minted over Rs 200 crores across theatres globally. On the 23rd anniversary of Raju Chacha’s theatrical release, Kajol has penned a special mes sage for her fans and well-wishers. Via the message, she also paid tribute to the legendary actor, late Rishi Kapoor – who played an essential role in the film.
Kajol on microblogging site X wrote, “#RajuChacha is and always will be an epic memory. The first being the fact that it was my one and only film with #RishiKapoor, somebody whom I have always been in awe of as an actor. He was the most amazing actor on screen, and it was my honour to work with him in that film.”
“Secondly, because we put up this fairyland set on the top of a mountain in Ooty and lived there for nearly ninety days! Now that’s truly something that is unforgettable. Raju Chacha, a 2000 Indian action-comedy film, was directed by Anil Devgan and marked the debut of Ajay Devgn as a film producer. Produced by his brother Ajay Devgn, the movie features Ajay himself, along with Kajol and Rishi Kapoor, with Sanjay Dutt making a special appearance.
The plot revolves around Shekhar (Devgn), a con artist who falls for Anna (Kajol), the governess of three children belonging to the wealthy widower Siddhant Rai (Kapoor). After Siddhant's demise, the kids face the machinations of their cunning relatives for custody. Shekhar reenters their lives, assuming the identity of Rajit Rai, Siddhant's long-lost brother, aiming to protect the children and their inheritance.
