After getting criticism for a comment she made about political leaders in a recent interview, Kajol provided a clarification. She made this statement in an interview while promoting her new courtroom drama, The Trial, to which several netizens reacted harshly.

Kajol used her Twitter account to set the record straight. She explained her tweet regarding education's significance by saying, "I was merely making a point. My intention was not to demean any political leaders; we have some great leaders who are guiding the country on the right path."

"Change, especially in a country like India, is slow," she had observed in an earlier interview, adding, "It is very slow. Because we are steeped in our traditions and steeped in our thought processes, and, of course, it has to do with education."

"You have political leaders who do not have an educational background," adding, "I'm sorry, but I'm going to go out and say that. I'm being ruled by leaders, so many of them, who do not have that viewpoint, which I think education does give you at least the chance to look out for a different viewpoint."

On the professional front, Kajol was most recently featured in the Netflix original film Lust Stories 2 and will star in the new web series The Trial: Pyaar, Kaanoon, Dhoka.

It's a realistic courtroom drama that explores the moral ambiguities that force Noyonika to stand up for herself and her family. Her character is determined to establish herself in the cutthroat world of law and must deal with difficult relationships while she searches for justice for her spouse.

For Kajol, the complexities are what define a character, and the layers surrounding Noyonika are what spoke to her when this role first came over. The character of Noyonika felt close to her, and the actor found herself wanting to protect her right away. This enhanced her confidence in her decision to watch The Trial: Pyaar, Kanoon, Dhoka on Disney+ Hotstar as her first foray into the lengthy format. Suparn Varma has created a world in which the frailty of characters collides with the harshness of life's circumstances. Because Kajol was in Noyonika's shoes, viewers will empathise with her as she faces challenging decisions.

The series will premiere on Disney+ Hotstar on July 14.
