As promised, Kajol has unveiled the motion poster for her upcoming film, Maa. Directed by Vishal Furia, this comes from the Shaitaan Universe (original film featuring her Toonpur Ka Superhero co-star Ajay Devgn, Hisaab Barabar actor R Madhavan, Vash actor Janki Bodiwala and Jyothika). The story is of a mother's fight against evil. While the face of the antagonist is hidden, this time, it is a tree that a mother is up against. Yes, the Munjya connection is here, and it's out in its fully glory!

Salaam Venky actress Kajol can be seen fighting up against a monster in the form of a tree. The villain, which is the literal representation of a conventional Rakshas, is seen with branches coming out as horns and facial hair. Meanwhile, there are burn marks on the actress' forehead and scratch marks on her face. This could indicate that she has been branded and the movie might be about another cult, a la, Shaitaan.

The Munjya connection

One might even spot the Munjya connection in the motion poster. Of course, it is, you guessed it, the tree. Munjya was born out of a tree and here, with Maa too, the villain is a tree. Except this time, it might be a darker entity (Munjya was the story of a boy, this is the story of an old man).

More about Maa

Kajol captions the motion poster of 'Rakshak, Bhakshak' Maa as The Protector. The Destroyer. This is a term often associated with Lord Shiva (and simultaneously with his wife, Goddess Parvati/Goddess Kali) in the Hindu scriptures. The movie might hint at something similar in the human form. The Vishal Furia directorial will be out in theatres on June 27. It is a pan-India release and will be available in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu and Bengali. Post its theatrical release, the movie will be out on Netflix.
