Kajol’s mother Tanuja hospitalized, under observation in ICU

Veteran actress Tanuja, who is also Kajol’s mother, was hospitalized on Sunday evening. She is under observation in ICU. The 80-year-old was admitted to the hospital in Juhu, Mumbai owing to an age-related illness.

A source told PTI that Tanuja is under observation and is doing well. They assured that there is nothing to worry about.

Tanuja’s family history

Tanuja was born in a filmy family and her children are in movies too. She was born to filmmaker Kumarsen Samarth and actress Shobhna Samarth. Tanuja and her sister Nutan also got into acting. The former married filmmaker Shomu Mukherjee and their kids Kajol and Tanisha are both actresses. Kajol is also married to actor Ajay Devgn and thus, Tanuja’s son-in-law is an actor too.

Tanuja’s most popular works

Tanuja started working in films at a young age. Her first movie was Hamari Beti which released in 1950. 10 years later she made her acting debut with Chhabili, that happened to be her mother’s directorial. She then worked in Kidhar Sharma’s Hamari Yaad Aayegi, which released a year later. The actress was a part of some iconic movies like Jewel Thief, Haathi Meri Saathi and Mere Jeevan Sathi. She even received two awards for best supporting actress, one of which was for her performance in Jewel Thief. Tanuja also worked in Bengali films like Rajkumari, Prothom Kadam Phool and Deya Neya (opposite Uttam Kumar).
