Amigos promises to be a new beginning for Kalyan Ram in his acting career spanning one and a half decades. It’s the first time he plays a triple role in a film, where he’s both the protagonist and the antagonist. Interestingly, he was also the producer of Jai Lava Kusa, where his brother Jr NTR essayed a triple role in a story of triplets separated at birth. However, in Amigos, all the three characters happen to be lookalikes sans any personal connect.

In a new promotional video surrounding his upcoming release Amigos, Kalyan Ram spoke of the challenges he faced while playing the antagonist Michael. “While it was exciting to listen to the idea of playing a triple role in Amigos, I realised the practical difficulties only while filming it. It took nearly two hours for getting ready for each of the three roles and maintaining a distinction among them wasn’t easy.”

“When we were trying to finalise the look of the antagonist Michael, the director Rajendra Reddy came up with the idea of greying his hair, given he’s shrewd, thinks a lot and no one can make out what’s going on in his mind. I really liked the suggestion. I don’t want to spoil the surprise for you but Michael is someone who wouldn’t mind going to any extent to fulfil his aims,” Kalyan Ram added.

“If at all I’m asked to tell what was the most satisfying aspect about working in Amigos, it’s certainly the prospect of playing Michael. He is the lifeline of the film and drives the story forward. I took me nearly two days to understand the body language, mannerisms and the dialogue delivery for the character. I’m quite confident that audiences will appreciate our attempt,” he said.

Also starring Ashika Ranganath and Brahmaji in key roles, Amigos, releasing on February 10, is produced by Y Ravi Shankar and Naveen Yerneni under Mythri Movie Makers. Netflix has acquired the film’s post-theatrical streaming rights.
