All roads led to KG Cinemas in Race Course Road, Coimbatore on Friday. Vehicles made a beeline to the theatre and people walked long distances to get a glimpse of their favourite star Ulaganayagan Kamal Haasan. The actor was in the city for the 100th day celebration of Kamal Haasan's blockbuster Vikram. Talking about his association with the textile and industrial city that dates back to decades, Kamal Haasan said to a packed audience, "I have come to Coimbatore to celebrate 16 Vayadhinile. People didn't know us really well then and I was not yet in the league of a star list. But you all made me one."
The actor also spilled the beans that the climax scene of Vikram was to be shot in Coimbatore. "We had erected the set and everything was ready. The director (Lokesh Kanagaraj) too hails from here. I, too, like this place and wanted to shoot here. But three days into shooting, I got Covid and we had to pack up and shift everything to Chennai."
The actor also stated that the film industry in the north is today a bit wary of the south due to the kind of content they have been producing. But I say that even the sun has Uttarayan and Dakshinayan. So we should be careful and ensure that the light always falls on us."
He added, "In my family, everyone is well educated except me. Whatever I learnt was in the film industry and from those behind the scenes. All I want to say is always support good cinema. When a filmmaker makes a good film, encourage him. Likewise for the actor. If you like my work and say a word of appreciation, it will double my salary. If I think all these claps are for me, there is no bigger fool than me. You definitely have given my talent recognition. It all came out of experience. When I have to give credit for the success of the film, I have to thank everyone."
