Actor, producer and distributor Udhayanidhi Stalin, who is also the MLA of Chepauk-Thiruvallikeni constituency, was sworn in as Minister in the Tamil Nadu Cabinet yesterday (December 14). The newly appointed minister was allotted the portfolio of Youth Welfare and Sports Development. Soon after the swearing-in, Udhayanidhi Stalin informed the media that he is calling it quits as an actor and that Mari Selvaraj's upcoming film, Maamannan will be his last venture. He added that he has opted out of Kamal Haasan's upcoming production as well and stated that Kamal Haasan was one of the first persons to wish him on the new role. It is to be noted that Udhayanidhi Stalin's Red Giant Movies had distributed Kamal Haasan's blockbuster action entertainer Vikram.

Meanwhile, wishes have been pouring in for the actor, who was last seen in Magizh Thirumeni's Kalagathalavaian. Many from the film fraternity took to their respective social media handles to wish Udhayanidhi Stalin.

Kamal Haasan, one of the first persons to wish him, wrote in Tamil, which roughly translates to, "Congratulations brother @Udhaystalin. You have become a minister. I hope you will not think of it as a position but accept it as a responsibility and the experience of three generations will help you. There are expectations. Your success lies in fulfillment (sic)."

Rajinikanth wrote,"My heartiest congratulations to my dear brother Udhayanidhi Stalin who has been sworn in as the Minister of Tamil Nadu (sic)."

Raghava Lawrence wished the actor stating, "My heartily wishes to Brother Udhayanidhi Stalin for being appointed as the Minister for Youth Welfare and Sports Development! @Udhaystalin (sic)."

Today, Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja has dropped an audio message to wish the Kalagathalaiavan actor. He stated that he was glad that Udhayanidhi Stalin had become a minister and appealed to the actor to work hard for people.

Udhayanidhi Stalin has wrapped up work on Maamannan and the film includes Keerthy Suresh and Vadivelu as part of the star cast. The film, directed by Mari Selvaraj, has AR Rahman scoring the music.
