This year is already turning out to be a special one for Kamal Haasan fans. After the superstar’s return to acting after a hiatus with Lokesh Kanagaraj’s Vikram, he dropped another surprise recently in an interview, saying that he will be scripting a film for Mollywood director Mahesh Narayanan, who had helmed Take Off, C U Soon and Malik.

A source close to the Mollywood director tells OTTplay, “This project was in discussions for sometime now. It will be the sequel of Thevar Magan, which was also scripted by Kamal Haasan and directed by the late Malayali director Bharathan.”

On when the movie will go on floors, the source says, “It’s a big budget film and shooting will begin only after Kamal Haasan completes his portions of Vikram and Indian 2. It will be a full-fledged Tamil movie.” The source also adds that an official announcement of the upcoming project will be made soon.

Thevar Magan, which revolved around a father and son played by Sivaji Ganesan and Kamal, released in 1992 and won five National Awards. Kamal’s previous script was for the action thriller Thoonga Vaanam in 2015.

Mahesh Narayanan and Kamal had earlier worked together in Vishwaroopan and its sequel where the former served as the editor. Mahesh, last month, had also organised a special screening of his latest directorial Malik for Kamal Haasan in Chennai. Malik’s lead actor Fahadh is also part of Kamal’s ongoing film Vikram. Meanwhile, Mahesh is gearing up for his next directorial Ariyippu, which has Kunchacko Boban in the lead. The duo had earlier collaborated in Take Off.
