The trailer of Vikram, featuring Kamal Haasan, Fahadh Faasil and Vijay Sethupathi in lead roles, has fetched more than 18 million views in two days. And, still counting! The Vikram trailer, along with the album, was launched at a glitzy event, on May 15.
This is Kamal Haasan's first release since Vishwaroopam 2, which was released in 2018. The actor-politician has been occupied with his political stint, besides hosting the reality show, Bigg Boss Tamil.
The trailer of Vikram begins with Kamal Haasan narrating a story of lions, tigers and cheetahs in a forest, in his inimitable baritone—which reminds us of his previous films—Kuruthipunal and Vettaiyaadu Vilaiyaadu. Of course, several shots in the trailer mirrored the Kaithi universe—biryani; heavy gunfire sound, and so on.
Several fan theories claim that Vikram is likely set in the same universe as Kaithi. Both the films feature Narain, as a cop, speculated to be the same individual.
The film will also see Suriya play a special appearance. Also, did you know Suriya and Lokesh were supposed to collaborate on Irumbukai Mayavi, which was eventually dropped? This ain't the first time Suriya was making a cameo in a Kamal Haasan film. Earlier, he was seen in Manmadhan Ambu (2010). It's no secret that both of them share a great rapport.
Vikram has songs and the background score by Anirudh Ravichander. Pathala Pathala is already a chartbuster and has amassed over 2.5 crore views. The song is a peppy gaana number, sung and written by Kamal Haasan. According to Cinema Express, Pathala Pathala is reminiscent of many of Kamal's previous tracks like Annaatha Aaduraar (Apoorva Sagotharagal), Kandhasamy Ramasamy (Pammal K Samandham), and Alwarpettai Aandava (Vasool Raja MBBS).
The report, published by Cinema Express adds that Kamal Haasan, in many instances, has spoken about the cultural significance of North Madras dialects and has taken pride in being well-versed in it. Pathala Pathala yet again depicts his love for the culture.
Directed by Lokesh Kanagaraj, Vikram is produced by Raaj Kamal Films International (RKFI) and Red Giant Movies.
Vikram, the 232nd film of Kamal Haasan, will hit theatres on June 3. For the unversed, Lokesh Kanakaraj’s Vikram is not a sequel to Kamal Haasan’s 1986 film with the same name. The previous movie had co-starred actress Lissy and actor Sathyaraj.
