Kaneez Surka is known for her improv comedy and witty sense of humour. She has collaborated with several stand-up comedians like Kenny Sebastian, the gang of AIB, and Kanan Gill. Her short film, ‘The Shaila(s)’ is currently streaming on Voot Select at the Voot Select Film Fest. This comprises her first stint as an actress in show business, though, theoretically it can be said that her actual debut would be the Akshay Kumar starrer Dosti: Friends Forever.

In conversation with Spotboye, Surka was all smiles when she realised that Wikipedia had credited her as a child actor in the 2005 movie. She went on to explain about one scene in the movie where she was seen alongside Kareena Kapoor Khan, which she was barely able to remember while trying to look back at the project. Recollecting those days, she jokingly said, “One of the scenes in the film required Kareena and I to express shock when she sees Akshay. The director shouted at me, “Kaneez, act shocked”, and one shock expression is all I did. I was literally there for one second.” She’d mentioned that she was 20 years old then, and was not a child.

Her latest short film ‘The Shaila(s), is about a complicated relationship between a maid and a wealthy socialite from South Mumbai that is satirical, which contains some reality as well. The cast of the film also includes Suman Patel and Manka Kaur. The film was shot two years ago and premiered in the Indian festival of LA.

Surka also took to social media to congratulate Neha Raheja Thakker, the director and writer of the film, while putting up a post on the project that also contained several behind-the-scenes snippets.
