Kangana Ranaut is currently shooting for the film Emergency, which is said to revolve around the emergency period in India in 1977. Now the actress says that the film is a musical drama and that she doesn't understand why you can't have music in such a film. She is also all praise for the film's composer GV Prakash Kumar. Taking to her social media handle, Kangana wrote, "Choreographer on set today..... director can take it easy ha ha ...by the way we have 5 songs in #emergency. It's a musical drama. I don't know why people don't expect sings in Emergency.... I love music, I might just have the longest song even above 10 mins.... For interval block.... And great music @gvpraksh (sic)."

The film's star cast includes Anupam Kher, Shreyas Talpade, Satish Kaushik, Mahima Chaudhry, Milind Soman, Vishak Nair and others. Kangana Ranaut will be playing former Prime Minister Indira Gandhi in the film and David Malinowski has been roped in for the prosthetics. This will be Kangana's second directorial after Manikarnika: The Queen of Jhansi. Kangana is bankrolling the film under the banner of Manikarnika Films along with Renu Pitti.

It is to be noted that GV Prakash had scored the music for Kangana Ranaut's previous biopic named Thalaivi, which revolved around the former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu J Jayalalithaa. The film received mixed reviews and was considered a box office failure. The actress will be seen in Tamil once again in the sequel to Chandramukhi (2005). Chandramukhi 2 stars Raghava Lawrence in the lead and is helmed by P Vasu, who had made Chandramukhi with Rajinikanth, Jyotika and Prabhu. It is said that Kangana's character will be that of a dancer in the film. The actress also has in her kitty Tejas, where she plays a fighter pilot and the biopic on Bengali theatre legend Binodini Dasi.
