Sanya Malhotra's Mrs. has started a debate on the internet, and there are two sections of people - one siding with the message in the film, and the others cribbing about how it goes against what generations of women have been following. While the Zee5 film (available for streaming on Zee5 via OTTplay Premium) tries to break the very 'norm,' some women appear uncomfortable with the idea of it. Kangana Ranaut has added her name to the list of women who do not agree with the idea the film brings forth and views it as a movie that 'endorses divorce.' Here's everything she said...
Kangana Ranaut cited the examples from her household to state that feeding the family and running the household brought joy to the women in her family. While not mentioning Mrs. out loud, she shunned the idea of household chores being called 'forced labour.' It is to be noted that Mrs. is the story of a woman with dreams who is asked to sacrifice on her very dreams, devalued within the "new family" and asked to 'adjust' to her new routine because that is just what the women have practiced since ages.
Through her long posts, Kangana also asked women to stop seeking validation from others for the work they do. She stated out loud that it is a woman's duty to serve her house members, and if she seeks validation in that, it would be her and her therapist at the end.
To end her note, Kangana stated that joy does not exist and the only place women can look at is towards God because all else is hopeless. She explains that is what Indian shastras suggest and thus, instead of 'endorsing divorce,' women should stay rooted to 'ancient wisdom' in order to move ahead as a nation.
