After what felt like a massive battle and a long wait, Emergency, starring Kangana Ranaut and also directed by her, finally hit the big screen. The movie, based on the life of former Prime Minister Late Indira Gandhi and the infamous Emergency Era, explores what led to it and its impact on Indian history. Released on January 17, 2025, the film is not experiencing a great box office run. However, Kangana, in her latest comment, has pronounced the movie a world-class film and emphasized how she "walks the talk" and stays true to her words.
Post the release of Emergency, Kangana Ranaut shared a powerful reflection on her challenging journey with the film. The actor has been vocal about its making and reiterated her stance on producing a movie that deserves recognition.
Speaking about her conviction regarding Emergency, Kangana Ranaut, as per News18, said, “It should be very clear from my work that if I have criticized people or pointed out issues in the film industry for making atrocious films, or if I have objectified women, then I walk the talk. It’s not just about walking the talk—I can make a fine film.”
She further added, “I can show an elderly woman with grace and dignity. I can also make a world-class film in that language. So, I walk the talk. First of all, I think that should be acknowledged—as a person, as an artist. That is the need of the hour, and that is what I deserve.”
“If I gain anything from this film, it will be because I walk the talk. I have never, ever thought, 'Okay, I am like that, but this is my film; I walk the talk.' I used to do this,” she continued, stressing that her actions and craft always speak louder than words. For Kangana, Emergency is a testament to her dedication to pushing boundaries and maintaining authenticity, no matter the challenges. “There is nothing more to say. My film speaks for itself, and elaborating more on this is just a waste of time. There is no need for it.”
In the first week of its release, as per numbers from Sacnilk, Emergency managed to earn only around ₹1 crore on the sixth and seventh days, respectively. This brought the total collection of the movie to a mere ₹14.4 crore in the domestic market, which is not even half its production budget, given the film’s decently large scale.
To put this into perspective, Jigra, starring Alia Bhatt, was labeled a flop last year for its poor box office performance, earning approximately ₹22.45 crore at the Indian box office in its first week. This means Kangana Ranaut’s Emergency earned ₹8 crore less than Jigra in its first week. Below is a day-wise breakdown of Emergency’s first seven days.
Day-wise Breakdown of Emergency (First Week):
Total: ₹14.40 Cr
