Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan starrer Tanu Weds Manu and Tanu Weds Manu Returns are two of the most acclaimed films. Fans have been wanting the third instalment for so long, and filmmaker Aanand L Rai shared that Tanu Weds Manu 3 is on the cards, but now a recent report claimed that the film has been stalled, and it has a connection with Raanjhanaa's AI-altered climax.
Mid-Day reported that Eros International Media Limited has now issued a legal caution notice, claiming that it is the “sole and exclusive owner” of all rights to Tanu Weds Manu films. The notice warned that any unauthorised sequel “shall be treated as infringement” and met with action.
It also added that the relations between Eros and Rai have reportedly been strained, after the filmmaker criticised the company for using AI to alter the climax of his film Raanjhanaa (2013) in a recent re-release (Re-release with a twist, July 12).

In the original plot of Raanjhanaa, Kundan (Dhanush) is shot and sent to the ICU. Zoya (Sonam Kapoor) rushes to the hospital to be by his side at the moment of his death. However, in the Tamil version of the film, Ambikapathy (re-released in cinemas), Dhanush's character, Kundan, doesn't die.
Sonam's character Zoya stares at Dhanush lying on a bed. Kundan is then seen sitting on the bed with his eyes open, leaving Bindiya (Swara Bhasker) and Murari (Mohammed Zeeshan Ayyub) in tears of happiness.
Earlier, Pinkvilla mentioned that the film is expected to go on floors by July or August 2025, once Aanand L Rai wraps up shooting for Tere Ishk Mein with Dhanush and Kriti Sanon. The film is expected to be a big theatrical release in 2026 and is expected to continue the 100 percent track record of the franchise at the box office.
In an earlier interview with Hindustan Times, director Aanand L Rai addressed the speculations about the third installment of Kangana Ranaut and R Madhavan starrer Tanu Weds Manu.
He shared, "It only depends on the story, nothing else. We are working on the story. It is a big responsibility to get the characters back with a bigger story. I am on it, and I will be on floors the day it’s cracked.”
