KanKhajura trailer OUT: Roshan Mathew leads a haunting tale of guilt, secrets, and memory's prison

Sony LIV's (OTTplay Premium) new original series KanKhajura explores themes of guilt, memory, and broken relationships in its official trailer. Reimagined with a local context, the Indian adaptation of the highly acclaimed Israeli series Magpie examines the inner complexity and buried scars within a family.

KanKhajura plot summary

When long-buried secrets come rushing back to stalk two brothers, the story takes a dark turn as their recollections blend with reality and they are compelled to face a terrible past. The story of KanKhajura takes place in a hauntingly silent setting, where the weight of unspoken regret and emotional scars conceals the truth.

Roshan Mathew on portraying Ashu

Roshan Mathew (Dhoomam and Cobra), who plays Ashu, one of the main protagonists, expressed that the role's profound emotional complexity was what drew him to it. The actor said that the emotional depth and the quiet undercurrent of KanKhajura were what first captivated him. He revealed that Ashu is a multi-faceted character, capable of being delicate at times, yet harbouring a simmering storm within, and the story simultaneously evokes both warmth and dread. What makes the show so entertaining to examine, according to Mathew, is that every relationship on it has a fracture somewhere.

Sarah Jane Dias on her complex role

Sarah Jane Dias (Parchhayee: Ghost Stories by Ruskin Bond and Never Kiss Your Best Friend), who portrays Nisha, emphasised the intricacy of the show and her character. The actor shared that KanKhajura is disturbing in every way: the story itself, the characters, and the themes of guilt, family, and memory. She also said that Nisha is a character whose internal struggles are causing her to attempt to maintain composure. Sarah noted that playing a character with so many layers and subtleties was challenging but ultimately liberating.

With Mohit Raina, Roshan Mathew, Sarah Jane Dias, Mahesh Shetty, Ninad Kamat, Trinetra Haldar, Heeba Shah, and Usha Nadkarni among the impressive ensemble cast, the series is produced by Ajay Rai and directed by Chandan Arora. Developers Adam Bizanski, Omri Shenhar, and Dana Eden have rethought the series while working under a license from Yes Studios. Donna and Shula Productions are responsible for the production.
