The countdown to the release of Raj B Shetty’s next, Toby, has begun. A Varamahalakshmi festive offering, the film, which is Raj’s next production after Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana, will be in theatres on August 25. So far, the actor has kept the film shrouded in mystery, offering only one of his looks for audiences to mull on. This look, which has him sporting a massive nose ring, with blood trickling down his wounded face, is how Raj will look towards the end of the film, at a crucial moment in the narrative. The actor had got his nose pierced and worn the adornment amid much pain during the shoot – this is about all that we know so far.
That should change tomorrow, when the trailer of Raj’s film drops. To be available to audiences at 4.05 pm on August 4, the trailer will then have an official launch at a major event in Bengaluru, which will be graced by the other two members of Kannada cinema’s RRR triumvirate – Rakshit and Rishab Shetty.

In earlier conversations with the media, Raj has said that Toby is his most massy film to date. While Garuda Gamana Vrishabha Vahana was a class film disguised as mass, Toby takes a different approach. It will be massy, but character-driven, he’d said. The film, meanwhile, is based on a story by Dayanand TK, which Raj rewrote by picking a few characters and changing the narrative around. Set in Kumta, Toby is a revenge drama directed by Raj’s long-time associate Basil AL Chalakkal and has Raj’s trusted duo Midhun Mukundan and Praveen Shriyan return for the music and cinematography. It also stars Gopalkrishna Deshpande, Samyukta Hornad and Chaithra J Achar on the cast. The film is being released in Karnataka by KVN Productions.
