Kannada superstar Yash's Toxic set to ignite film scene in Karnataka

Kannada superstar Yash's much-awaited movie Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups is all set to finally go on the floors. The regular shooting of the movie will begin in Karnataka in April, exactly a year before its planned release in the same month next year.

According to an official statement, the producers of Toxic have decided to carry out the majority of the shoot within Karnataka to create job opportunities for local crew and talent. "Due to the lack of optimal facilities, all our big films end up being shot outside the state. We have already erected massive sets, creating many job opportunities and avenues for people at the ground level, technicians, and budding talent in the state. We are working towards making a film of global potential," said Venkat K Narayana of KVN Productions.

Yash's contribution to Kannada cinema

Yash is known for his efforts to raise the stature of the Kannada film industry worldwide. His last film, KGF: Chapter 2, created a new historical benchmark for the Kannada film industry and showcased its true potential.

At a time when the Kannada film industry was reeling under regional obscurity, only occasionally making the right noises for a handful of well-made content-driven movies, Yash, director Prashanth Neel, and Hombale Films redefined its image. KGF 2 went on to earn more than Rs 1200 crore from its worldwide ticket sales and dominated box offices in neighbouring states, where Kannada films had no standing before.

The success of the KGF series paved the way for Kannada filmmakers and actors to dream big and make movies that are bigger in scale and ambition.

Toxic update

Following the success of KGF, Yash took his own time to decide his next movie. He showed no hurry to sign his next and cash in on his newfound popularity across the country. He surprised by choosing director Geetu Mohandas to direct his next film. Geetu Mohandas is not known for making run-of-the-mill mindless entertainers. She has carved a niche for herself with hard-hitting movies that explore very dark themes.

And this unlikely combination of the star and director has created quite an excitement among movie buffs.

Toxic is expected to hit the screens on April 10, 2025.
