Kannappa, the Telugu historical starring Vishnu Manchu as the title character, will be in theatres on April 25. The film, directed by Mukesh Kumar Singh, based on a story and screenplay by its leading man, is based on the life of the Bhaktha Kannappa, a hunter and warrior, who went from being an atheist, Thinnadu, to becoming one of Lord Shiva’s most ardent devotees, and offering up his eyes in devotion.
Following an on-ground event in Mumbai to launch the second teaser, which was attended by Akshay Kumar, who plays Lord Shiva in the film and Madhoo, the glimpse has now been shared with audiences, with a look at other power-packed cameos, including from superstars Mohanlal and Prabhas.
Mohanlal plays Kirata, a tribal leader described as the ‘Master of Pashupatastra’, while Prabhas is the divine guardian Rudra, who is ruled by Lord Shiva’s command and is a guide through times past and future. The teaser also features Kajal Aggarwal as Goddess Parvati, who asks Lord Shiva how Kannappa could ever become a devotee, given his utter lack of faith in the divine.
At the teaser launch, Vishnu said that Prabhas agreed to be a part of the film with no questions asked, after the former’s father, veteran actor Mohan Babu requested him. Akshay, on the other hand, had declined to be a part of the film a couple of times, but was later convinced, following the team’s insistence.
Kannappa’s ensemble cast also includes Sarathkumar, Mukesh Rishi, Brahmaji, Brahmanandam, Arpit Ranka, Preity Mukundhan, Aishwaryaa Bhaskaran, Devaraj, Sampath Ram, Siva Balaji, among others. Music is by Stephen Devassy, while Sheldon Chau is credited with the cinematography. The film is said to have been made at a budget close to Rs 100 crore. The film will release in Telugu, Hindi, Kannada, Tamil and Malayalam.
