Mammootty-starrer police investigation thriller Kannur Squad is running to packed theatres. The film, released on September 28, with no competition from other Malayalam releases, has received an overwhelming response after its first day. The latest is that the scriptwriter of Kannur Squad, Rony David Raj, who also played a prominent role in the film, dedicated the success to the entire production and cast.

"We are extremely happy to hear the positive response from the audience. It has been a 4-year-long effort by the team. The direction team elevated the film to another level from what we writers had conceived. They have worked for 20 hours a day, which I can't think of. Hearing applause for the dialogues we have written is a one-of-a-kind experience", Rony told Cinehoods.

Speaking about a possible sequel, he said that he can't comment on it since it is not his decision alone.

The actor-scriptwriter also said that the film could not be more cinematic, as doing so would change its track. He added that directors like Shaji Kailas are better suited to make such films.

"I think this film will lose its essence if we make it more cinematic. As director Roby is not a fan of exaggerated writing, we had to force him to include some cinematic dialogues in the film", Rony said.

What is Kannur Squad about?

The title of the movie is the name of a real wing operating in the Kerala Police Department. The film revolves around a team of four police officers investigating a crime in the Kasargod district of Kerala. As part of the investigation, they embarked on a journey to states like Rajasthan and Maharashtra to nab the criminals involved in the case.

Mammootty plays George, an ASI who leads a team of police officers. Vijayaraghavan, Shabareesh Varma, Azeez Nedumangad and Sunny Wayne are also part of the cast.
