As much as Rishab Shetty and producers Hombale Films are keen on expanding the 'Divine' franchise, those associated with the project reckon that the sequel is yet to fully germinate.

Ahead of Kantara's release in September, little did the makers of the film think that about 6-8 weeks down the line, they'd be conceiving a sequel. Interestingly, the conversations about the prospective second part have cropped up when Kantara is yet to wind up its theatrical run and this alone proves just how much the world is smitten by Rishab Shetty's film. Day in and out, reports continue to emerge carrying speculations about Kantara 2: from Rishab Shetty planning a prequel to him turning a recluse in a "no-network" zone to focus on the writing, there's been no dearth of quirks as far as the media is concerned.

Regardless of the clamour around, it is certain at this point that both Rishab and Hombale Films are keen on the sequel but unlike what most reports claim, it would seem that the project is yet to fully germinate. With Rishab also dissociating himself from the film Bachelor Party (as revealed by Diganth Manchale, one of the three lead actors of the film), many were led to believe that he is fully immersed in the development of Kantara 2 but, apparently, the team is currently piecing things together and it will be a while before they fully commit themselves to the idea.

Prakash Thuminad, who plays Raampa in Kantara, spoke about the sequel in his recent media interaction and divulged a few key details. "Kantara 2 is yet to be properly planned and I haven't heard anything definitive from either the director or the production house. The plan is certainly on, there is an idea and the intent [to make a sequel] but there is no clarity as to whether it will happen or not - one could expect to get the complete picture before February [2023]," said Thuminad in a recent interview.

Will he remain a part of Shiva's gang should the sequel be made eventually? "Yes, definitely," says the talented actor who rose in popularity as one of the main comic reliefs in Kantara. He was also seen playing a pivotal role in the recent ensemble film Dharani Mandala Madhyadolage.
