Rishab Shetty's Kantara has seen off the first weekend of its theatrical run on a high. The action-thriller has been steadily peaking at the box office over the last three days with the first Saturday and Sunday, in particular, yielding great results for the makers. As per the latest trade reports, Kantara has already gone past the Rs. 20 crore mark at the global box office and is now on course to become a bona fide commercial success.

As of Monday morning (October 3), Kantara has collected approximately Rs. 22.50 crores worldwide in terms of gross figures with the domestic collections ranging up to Rs. 19 crores (approx.). The same trade reports reveal that the film's box office earnings on Day 3 saw a 25% jump globally and a 61% rise in the domestic business. Kantara closed Day 2 around Rs. 10.25 crores (net) and is said to have collected over Rs. 8 crores on the first Sunday, making it a highly successful opening weekend for the makers. Reportedly, the domestic box office was closed on Sunday at Rs. 13.80 crores in terms of net value.

For the unversed, GROSS value refers to the collective sum of the ticket price as sold at the counter whereas the NET Box Office collection is arrived at after the entertainment tax is deducted from the gross sum.

Kantara is certainly on its way to being one of the biggest successes of the year as far as the Kannada Film Industry is concerned. Although the film may not match up to the box office performance of some of the other major hits such as K.G.F: Chapter 2, 777 Charlie, etc. the eventual ROI (Return on Investment) of the Rishab Shetty starrer is quite incredible considering the scale and budget of the project. Also, unlike the other successful ventures, Kantara wasn't mounted as a pan-India film and the film is thriving only among Kannada-speaking audiences. Alongside, with no major Kannada release taking place this upcoming week (October 7), Kantara is likely to benefit from the free run and further leverage the positive word-of-mouth publicity.
