Rishab Shetty's latest directorial Kantara has now entered the fourth of its theatrical run and the film is ageing incredibly well at the box office. Having closed the third-week domestic collections at Rs. 165 crores (gross), Kantara is now inching towards the Rs. 200 crores mark as far as the global box office is concerned. According to the latest reports and as of October 22, the worldwide collections of the film stand at Rs. 185.5 crores.
With the film currently running in theatres across the world in five different languages, the makers would expect the film to go past the Rs. 200 crores mark over the weekend, and have newer and bigger targets in sight.
And in the same vein, the fourth weekend for Kantara is shaping up excellently as the latest trade estimates suggest another Rs. 10 crores Saturday (October 22). The previous two weekends have fetched Rs. 34.45 crores and Rs. 17.8 crores to the makers and one can expect solid performances on the trot.
At the domestic box office, Kantara has collected over Rs. 122 crores in Karnataka so far with the two Telugu states, Tamil Nadu, and Kerala grossing Rs. 21.53 crores, Rs. 3.35 crores, and Rs. 1.36 crores respectively (data collected from www.sacnilk.com). The broader area split of 'Rest of India' has collected Rs. 22.99 crores to date.
With these prospects in sight, Kantara is well on course to beat K.G.F: Chapter 1 in terms of lifetime collections. The first instalment of the mega Rocky Bhai franchise is said to have grossed Rs. 238 crores during its theatrical run and Kantara is highly suited right now to go past those figures and become the second highest-grossing Kannada film of all time (only behind KGF 2).
Kantara currently has the Daali Dhananjaya starrer Head Bush to reckon with in its home state of Karnataka with Gandhada Gudi slated to release the coming Friday on October 28: regardless, the latest Hombale Films production seems quite set in its pursuits to achieve greatness.
